Urns and Urn Vaults
Memorial urns are containers to hold cremated remains. There are many elegant choices in wide-ranging styles, sizes, and prices. An urn may be made of bronze, pewter, hardwoods, marble and other materials. Designs range from traditional vase shapes to personalized chests to crafted works of art.
Deciding what will be done with cremated remains often helps determine what type of urn to select. An urn that will be displayed on a mantel is quite different from an urn used to scatter cremated remains. If there is to be a memorial service, an urn may serve as a focal point. The cremated remains may be buried in a family plot at a cemetery, placed in a columbarium niche, or kept in a special place at home. Some families share the cremated remains, each choosing a keepsake urn to hold a small amount. Environmentally safe, biodegradable urns can be used for burial or scattering at sea. Many urns can be personalized through engraving.
For burial, air and water tight urn vaults are available. Many cemeteries require an urn vault if an urn is to be buried. These vaults may also act as a time capsule, allowing families to place keepsakes in with the urn.
A.J. Desmond & Sons offers dozens of urns of varying designs, materials, and prices. Below is a sample of the urns we have available. For additional information or more options, please contact or visit us. Urn prices range from $95 - 3,295.

Urn Vaults
A burial vault for cremated remains provides protection to a buried urn. If you plan a ground burial for the urn, most cemeteries require it be placed in an urn vault. Lined urn vaults give urns varying levels of protection from subsoil elements and the weight of the earth and cemetery maintenance equipment. A lined urn vault is made of high-strength concrete and reinforced with durable plastic or a combination of durable plastic and metal (bronze, copper, or stainless steel).
An urn vault also allows the family to have a meaningful ceremony when burying their loved one. Items such as pictures and other memorabilia can be placed in the vault like a time capsule and can bring value to a final ceremony.
Keepsake Urns
Many urns are also produced in smaller versions to hold a small portion of the remains. These Keepsake Urns are especially appropriate when only a portion of the cremated remains are to be scattered or when a family chooses to divide the cremated remains among family members.
