Grief Resources For Pet Loss

If you have recently lost a pet, we are sorry for your loss. The emotions we experience when we lose a beloved pet often take us by surprise. Some of us might think it’s silly to show sorrow when an animal dies, and we hide our grief. But sorrow over the loss of a pet is the most natural thing in the world. We’ve lost a dear friend, a companion, a member of the family.

One of the best ways to heal from this type of loss is to commemorate our pets in much the same way that we would honor the life of any other family member.

When we are faced with the death of a pet, we have to ask ourselves important questions. These typically include how to explain the death to a child and when and if to get a new pet. These questions may also suggest that we reflect on companionship, independence and other life concerns.

For assistance with your grief, please contact our Bereavement Counselor, Mary Jamerino, at mjamerino@desmondfuneralhome.com or 248-362-2500.

If interested in puchasing an urn for your pet's cremated reamins, please see our Urns selection, or call us at 248-362-2500 (Troy) or 248-549-0500 (Royal Oak).

If your pet has just died, you may want to visit Faithful Companions.  They are a highly professional organization that can expertly assist you with your needs. Don’t hesitate to use us as a referral.
