Charles B. Fortner, "Chuck", died December 16, 2012. He was 83 years old, and had lived in Birmingham, MI for 56 years. Chuck worked for Ford Tractor Company (subsidiary of Ford Motor Co.) in Troy, MI for many years. He held various positions, but mostly worked in their advertising department.
Chuck was born April 13, 1929 in Chicago, IL to Robert and Florence Fortner. He spent his childhood living in the Chicago area and Janesville, WI before moving to Detroit. He was drafted into the US Army, and served for one year in Korea during the Korean War.
Chuck was an impressive athlete before an injury sidelined him in his 40's. He enjoyed playing basketball and baseball most of all, and also tried his hand at golf. When he wasn't playing sports, Chuck was most likely watching some sporting event. He loved college sports, especially college basketball. The NCAA Basketball Tournament and March Madness was his favorite time of the year. He mostly put his support with Duke and Kentucky.
Chuck will be remembered as a great guy and for his sense of humor, but his enduring legacy will be the love and devotion he had for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was the beloved husband of Gloria for almost 60 years; loving father of Robert (Debra), Kristyn Wilson (Chris), and David (Denise); proud grandfather of Jason, Elissa (Roy), Lauren (fiance Josh), Courtney, and Grant; great grandfather to be of a baby boy in February.
Memorial service will be 11am, Saturday January 19, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church of Birmingham, 1589 W. Maple Rd.
