Obituary

HELEN MARGUARETTE DiGIOVANNI age 94, died peacefully on Monday, August 2, 2010 at Cambrian Assisted Living Facility in Tecumseh, Michigan. She was born on August 1, 1916 in Detroit, Michigan.

Helen came from humble beginnings on Detroit's East side. She was the fifth of six children to Helen and Stanley Nowicki.

Like many others from the Depression era, Helen had to find work to survive. She was employed at the Bundy Tubing Company for eight years before starting her family.

During her early years as a wife and mom, she acquired a real gift for making her home and her gardens beautiful And that combination of her Polish and Italian cooking would give any restaurant a "run for the money".

After her husband, Jack, passed away Helen moved to Troy to be near to her daughters and their families. She joined St. Alan parish and started a new chapter in her life. Working on the Christmas and Easter baskets for the poor families took endless hours and Helen loved every minute. She always offered her "culinary talents" to any function that had "food".

She was founding member of the Church of St. Owen in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

As her health declined the last three years of her life were spent in Tecumseh, Michigan at Cambrian Assisted Living. Once again Helen became friends with the other residents and all the staff members. She brought joy and beauty to everyone she touched.

A special thanks goes out to the staff at Cambrian and to the Hospice Group of Lenawee County.
