JOHN H. RUEN JR. "JACK"
March 10, 1938 – July 14, 2012
John Henry Ruen, Jr. was born on March 10, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan. His proud parents were John "Hank" and Marion (nee Martin) Ruen. Jack and his parents were of Irish descent. He died on Saturday, July 14, 2012, peacefully at home in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan surrounded by his loving family. He was 74 years of age.
Jack was longtime resident of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and a former resident of Belleair, Florida. He was a proud graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School in 1956 and was involved in their hockey program.
Jack was a third-generation owner and operator of the Cleaners Hanger Co. in Detroit, Michigan. He retired in 1990, as CEO, after a life-long career with his family owned company.
Jack was devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed boating, travel and reading. He was an avid golfer and paddle tennis player at Orchard Lake County Club. Jack was a passionate advocate of the Alcoholics Anonymous brotherhood.
Jack was the beloved husband of Joan Watrous Ruen and they were married for 29 years. Dear father of John Ruen, III (Judy), Dennis Ruen (Christine), Nancy Trout (Mike), Kristen Damon (Ty), Kimberlee Allen (Tom), Tom Watrous (Diane), Debra Watrous and the late Denise Bowman (Mark). Grandfather of Robin, John IV, Elyse, Ashley, Darylann, Evan, Jack, Samantha, Andrew, Bryan, Brad, Amber, Lyndsey, Tommy, Mack and Briggs. Great grandfather of Charlie, Dylan and Max. Son of the late John "Hank" and Marion Ruen. Brother of Mike Ruen (Polly), Tim Ruen (Laura), Terry Ruen and the late Danny Ruen (Dori). Former husband of DeLoris Ruen.
The Ruen Family will receive friends at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak, Michigan on Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 4p.m. until 8p.m. A Scripture and Eulogy service will be held at 7p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home. The Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 11a.m. at the St. Hugo of the Hills Stone Chapel, 2215 Opdyke Road in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The Ruen Family will receive friends at the chapel after 10:30a.m. Inurnment services will be held after Mass at the St. Hugo Garden Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, the Ruen Family suggests memorial tributes to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of donor's choice.
Founded in 1913, the American Cancer Society(ACS) consists of more than two million volunteers and staff collaborating with nearly 18 million cancer survivors, their families and supporting donors united nationwide to conquer cancer. To accomplish its mission, the ACS collaborates with other voluntary health agencies, community-based organizations, business leaders, legislators, and educators at the national and grassroots levels to identify and address nationwide and local cancer issues through education, patient service, research and advocacy programs.
