KATHRYN MARY DAGGY
November 24, 1924 – July 6, 2012
Kathryn Mary Daggy (nee Stabile) (formerly Ellicott) was born on November 24, 1924 at the family's home on Congress Street, a few blocks northeast of Woodward and Jefferson Avenues in Detroit, Michigan. Her proud parents were Joseph and Grace (nee Navarra) Stabile. Her parents, Joseph and Grace, were born in Trapani, Sicily and they were married, in 1923, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan. Kathryn died on July 7, 2012 at the Boulevard Health Center in Rochester Hills, Michigan. She was 87 years of age.
Kathryn married Warren Ellicott in 1946 and their son, David Walters (formerly Ellicott), was born on December 12, 1948 and died on July 15, 2007. In 1953, she married Donald H. Daggy and they were married for 42 years. Don died on October 15, 1995
Kathryn graduated from Wayne University (now Wayne State University) in 1947 with a degree in Health Education. Before graduation she became a member of a local USO dance troop near the end of World War II. With permission from the Wayne faculty she opened a dance school in the "Old Main" building where she taught ballet, tap and ballroom dancing. Upon graduation she taught in the Detroit Public school system at Marcy Elementary, Northern High School and Denby High School. Later she served as a principal at Edmonson Elementary and assistant principal at both Lamphere High School and John Page Junior High in Madison Heights. Mrs. Daggy retired in 1980.
She was a member of the Order Sons of Italy, the Italian American Cultural Society, the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel and the Oakland County Pioneer and Historical Society where served for 31 years holding posts as President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary and tour guide leader. In the latter capacity she taught thousands of children and adults about Victorian life and the Civil War's effect on Oakland County.
Loving companion of Charles H. Martinez. Wife of the late Donald H. Daggy for 42 years. Mother of the late David Walters. Sister of Carmelita Carafelly and Joseph Stabile. Aunt of Grace Carafelly, Camille Warner, Christopher Daggy and Lisa Drummond.
Family will receive friends at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward (btwn 13-14 Mile), Tuesday, July 10, 2012 from 2:00pm until Scripture service 7:30pm.
Committal service Wednesday 11:00am at White Chapel Cemetery, Chapel of Flowers, 621 W. Long Lake Rd., Troy.
