Vera G. Shkolnikov, 87, of Birmingham, Michigan, wife of Moisey for 67 years, passed away after on Saturday, November 24, 2012 following a two year battle with Alzheimers.

Vera was born in Russia on November 19, 1925 to the late Gregory and Elena Egorov. She was a young lady during WWII and lived in Chelyabinsk, Russia where she met her future husband, Moisey Shkolnikov when they were 18 and 19 years old. They married and had their only child, Val, and attended college together in Russia. They lived for a time in Odessa and finished their studies. They ended up in Moscow following her husband's studies for his Ph.D. Vera was a woman who dedicated her self and her life to her husband and family.

They came to the United States in 1981 where Moisey got a job with General Motors. They grew there roots in Birmingham where they remained very happy and blessed with the area and with Michigan.

She was a very creative woman as well. She could sew, knit, paint, and always preferred to make things herself whether it was clothing, tapestries, or other items that she could make from hand or scratch. And what a wonderful cook she was. She was a true patriarch to her household. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing, entertaining, and just having friends around.

Vera is survived by her husband Moisey of 67 years. She is the loving mother of Val (Nadia). She is the devoted grandmother of Vadim, Anna, and Mark. She is also survived by a sister, Ludmila Kurbatov (Boris).

Always worrying about the well being of her family may eventually have caused her illness and loss of life. In her last hours she was unconscious. Then she opened her eyes, looked at her husband as he called her, turned back and expired. Her family loves her very much and grieves enormously for her.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from 10:30am until the time of service at 11:30am at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel) at 32515 Woodward Ave (between 13-14 Mile), Royal Oak.
