A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Directors is family owned and operated, and has been since our founding in 1917. For over 105 years, the McInnes, Desmond, Vasu, Connell and Price families have personally served metro Detroit families and communities with the highest level of empathy, dignity, and care. A.J. Desmond & Sons' funeral directors and staff live here, work here and care about the people here.

The Desmond Way is to always be compassionate and sensitive to families' needs, to offer complete assistance before, during and after the funeral, and to accept the responsibility entrusted to us with the highest level of integrity and respect. Our first priority is always the families we assist. We make our decisions based on what best serves these families and our communities as a whole. The best in the area, our directors are empowered to make the decisions that accomodate family wishes while providing the highest level of value. When you call us, you talk to us.

Corporate-owned funeral homes work differently. Their first priority is to serve their stockholders, making decisions according to corporate mandates. These can be short term cost cutting decisions that decrease their overall level of service. Corporate red tape, distant management and demands to lower costs hinder responses to family needs.

The last twenty-five years have seen a dramatic increase in the number of corporate owned funeral homes, as conglomerates have acquired locations all across the country. Often the original names are kept on the majority of these facilities, knowing local families may choose a funeral home based on name recognition and long-term community roots. But this is a façade. While the facility names remain the same, the business model has changed. The local roots have been cut.

We know that we best serve ourselves by serving you well. As a local, family-owned funeral home, your satisfaction is the only way we can succeed. In turn, we share our success locally by supporting local businesses and participating in numerous local civic and charity organizations.
